Official Launch of the World Archives Project
-
Between all of the services out there, which house virtually billions of historical records that will assist the family researcher or the professional genealogist, there are still more left out there that need to be placed online for the use of the the amateur and professional. Enter the World Archives Project. The beta project that existed to help folks discover more about their families was a huge success, and now, its no longer beta.
The official launch of the Ancestry world archival project is coming to pass, bringing more records online for those who want to review them.

Literally thousands of people took part in the Ancestry World project, but the task hasn’t been completed by any stretch of the imagination. Ancestry.com believes that there are trillions of records that could be brought online ,but the problem is, that many of them need to have hand indexing done to make them even remotely searchable for them to be as usable and as useful as they can be.The site says that the staff of Ancestry.com is literally working full time on setting up those indexes, but what makes the largest problem for them is the
keying in that will help to get the new content online. The archives project was begun to get those additional records online and to offer some addtional benefits to the users of the site. The archive project was launched solely to get those records out and online.
YOU can help with that and your hard work won’t come without perks and benefits that won’t pertain just to you, but to nearly everyone in the world if you take some time to volunteer to help with the task at hand on Ancestry.com
The bottom line is this.. according to them ” Any index keyed by the project contributors will be free to all users of Ancestry.com forever. Every few minutes you volunteer to key New York Naturalization Records or Scottish Marriage Registers will benefit your worldwide family history hunters for all time.”
NOw don’t you think its worth a few minutes of your time a week, to bring free records to millions of people per year? Volunteers have keyed more than five millioin of the records in in the last nine months. How many more could we accomplish in the course of this project? You may find, if you spend twenty minutes keying in the records of slavery, marriages, births and deaths, that you have given yourself a valuable present, since some of the records that can be accessed for free, might include your own family’s.Take the time to volunteer for the World Archives Project.

Could you tell me how can I volunteer for the World Archives Project and how it works? I’m home and not working and just thought of volunteering in my free time, since I have a lot of that.

I have been researching my ancestry for several years. It is quite rewarding, although time consuming.
I take care of an elderly parent. For that reason I can not work outside my home. I need the income. Are there any paying jobs connected to the World Archive Project…ie proofing, data entry, etc.
Very interested in hearing from you. Please reply to above email.
Thanks, Julie Clark
